Larian Studios Reveal a Latest Divinity, Declaring it Their Biggest RPG to Date

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can look forward to more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
