Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior political figure said the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in five years prior.
